A ten centre inn-to-inn, self-guided walking tour in Wales along the Pembrokeshire Coast Trail from St Dogmaels to Dale in the Pembrokeshire National Park. 10 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, 9 days walking, luggage transfer, return to Haverfordwest rail station, guide book and maps.
Pembrokeshire, the Lands End of Wales, stretches its fingers far out towards the setting sun, a land of magic and mystery scattered with traces of bygone ages. Neolithic cromlechs stand on the headlands and Iron Age forts dot the hills, while St Davids mediaeval cathedral hides in its valley from the prying eyes of long-gone raiders. Here the coast is a birdwatchers paradise particularly at the marine nature reserve of Skomer, where choughs and peregrines soar and guillemots and razorbills crowd on the cliff ledges. This tour follows the breathtaking twists and turns of the Coast Path from its start at St Dogmaels to Dale, 100 miles in all.
This Explore Britain tour in Wales starts at the insignificant hamlet of St Dogmaels near Cardigan. Soon away from habitation it traverses fantastic cliffs to reach Newport. Now it heads for the sea ports of Fishguard and Goodwick, before again traversing remote cliff top paths around Strumble Head to St Davids Head. The city of St Davids and its cathedral are soon lost and you follow sandy beaches littered with old wrecked ships. Small villages delight the eye passing through Newgale, Little Haven, Marloes and finally rounding St Anns Head to arrive at Dale.

You stop in country hotels, inns and guesthouses along the way, where accommodation is available in twin, double or single rooms, all with private facilities. Bed and Breakfast and one dinner (at a remote location) and luggage transfer between the overnight stays is inclusive.

START: Poppit Sands is about 35 miles north-east of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire (sometimes called Dyfed).
FINISH: Dale is about 13 miles south-west of Haverfordwest.

DAY ONE: Arrival at Cardigan. You may arrive anytime after 3pm. If requiring dinner this is usually between 7pm - 9pm both in hotels (booked in advance) and pubs. Overnight Cardigan, Cardiganshire, Wales.

DAY TWO: Walking from Poppit Sands to Newport. 15.5 miles (25km) and 3,000 feet of ascent. Heading off you soon reach the high cliffs of Cemaes Head. Moylgrove may be a short stop but you finish this first long day at the larger town of Newport. Dinner can be taken at one of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY THREE: Walking from Newport to Goodwick. 12.75 miles (20.5km) and 1,250 feet of ascent. Some short steep hills but mostly easy. A well-marked coastal path takes you around small headlands and secluded coves to finish at Goodwick. Dinner can be taken at one of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight Goodwick, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY FOUR: Walking from Goodwick to Trefin. 17.25 miles (27.8km) and 2,500 feet of ascent. This is a day far away from habitation. You pass through the small community of Abercastle before finishing at Trefin. Evening meals are served in the nearby pub. Overnight Trefin, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY FIVE: Walking from Trefin to Whitesands Bay. 11.25 miles (18km) and 1,500 feet of ascent. In and out of little coves you make your way to St Davids Head before finishing at Whitesands Bay. Dinner can be taken at the hotel (not included in the tour price). Whitesands Bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY SIX: Walking from Whitesands Bay to Porthclais & St David's. 7.4 miles (11.9km) and 950 feet of ascent. You have good views of Ramsey Island all day before you head inland to St Davids, where the atmospheric purple-stoned cathedral marks the spot where Wales' patron saint founded his monastery in 500AD. Dinner can be taken at the hotel or one of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY SEVEN: Walking from St David's to Porthclais & Solva. 6.9 miles (11km) and 1,500 feet of ascent. Today is short but quite hilly, so take your time to admire the dramatic coastal scenery. You arrive at the ancient port of Solva, now just a tiny village. Dinner can be taken at one of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Solva, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY EIGHT: Walking from Solva to Broad Haven. 10.8 miles (17km) and 700 feet of ascent. You walk alongside fine coastal beaches to your accommodation. Dinner can be taken at one of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Broad Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY NINE: Walking from Broad Haven to Marloes. 9.2 miles (14km) and 900 feet of ascent. With excellent views across St Brides Bay you again have good paths to reach your goal of Marloes. Dinner can be taken at either of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Marloes, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY TEN: Walking from Marloes to Dale. 12.5 miles (20km) and 800 feet of ascent. Starting at Marloes Sands this is mostly along level cliff top, with a few small ups and downs. You round the sandstone cliffs of St Anns Head, with views out to the nature reserve of Skomer Island and finish at the guesthouse in Dale. Dinner can be taken at the pub in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Dale, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

DAY ELEVEN: Departure. The tour finishes from Dale after breakfast with transfer to Haverfordwest rail station (included in tour price).

GRADE C+: Between 9 - 14 miles (14 - 22 kms) a day. Waterproof walking boots are preferable. You will start walking about 9:30am and finish at approx. 5pm. These grades are for guidance only. For any grade, depending on weather conditions, it may at times be damp underfoot, so waterproof boots are preferable.
