Why not let us spoil you with this fantastic 5 night self-guided walking tour set in heart of the Wicklow Mountains, better known as the Garden of Ireland. We will pick you up at Dublin Airport and take you into the heart Wicklow to the valley of Glendalough. Your accommodation for your stay will be in accommodation with en-suite facilities; set a-midst the tranquil surroundings of "Gleann Dá Loch". Translated into English it means "the valley of two lakes". Each day we will provide you with maps and route notes and transport where required. DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE of the 5 Nights Hiking tour of Ireland Wicklow Way at Glendalough tour: These are the usual booked overnight stays, walks or rides, we occasionally may have to make a late change, if so, you will be advised ahead of time or at your first guesthouse. The guided tours may be adjusted at the leaders discretion, due to weather and groups ability.
START and FINISH: Glendalough is 15 miles south of Dublin. Relax at a pre-tour Jurys Inn, Dublin Parnell Street.
ARRIVAL DAY: At Glendalough. We will pick you up at Dublin Airport and take you to the accommodation. You will have time to relax after the journey do a short stroll in the park, visit the craft shop, or meet the locals in the bar and get a sample or two of the local brew. Overnight Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland.
WALKING DAY ONE: Distance 6.8 miles (11km). Height Gain: 220m, 660 feet. Your journey to Wicklow starts with a visit to the 6th Century Monastic Settlement, which is situated just beside the hotel. Beginning with an audiovisual and display in the visitors centre followed by a guided tour of the Monastic Settlement. Afterwards you will commence your first walk in the valley, which takes you up past the two lakes to an old disused Miners Village. From here the walk takes you up to an area known as the Spinc, where you will have sweeping views back down over the lakes, the Monastic Settlement and the surrounding countryside. The walk finishes by coming down by Pollanass Waterfall and back to the accommodation. Overnight Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland.
WALKING DAY TWO: Distance 10.6 miles (17km). Height Gain: 150m, 450 feet. Your drive to the start of your walk today takes you through some of Wicklow’s most attractive villages, Laragh, Annamoe and Roundwood, which is Ireland’s highest village at 260 meters. Your walk starts overlooking Lough Tay and the Guinness Estate and it was here that a lot of Brave Heart, Excalibur, King Arthur and many more famous films were shot. Your walk takes you south back to Glendalough, through Sleamaine and Ballinafunshoge Forest. Where you will have some beautiful views down over Roundwood Village and the Vartry Reservoir on one side and Lough Dan on the other. From there the walk takes you down into Oldbridge, onto Paddock Hill and into the valley of Glenmacnass and finally back to Glendalough. Overnight Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland.
WALKING DAY THREE: Distance 8.75 miles (14km). Height Gain: Little to none. A walk with a difference, today we take you to the coastal town of Kilcoole where you will do one of the best coastal walks in the country. Starting from Kilcoole, one of Irelands finest nature reserves. Composed of an area of wet grassland, freshwater streams and a number of marshy pools that live on during the summer months after the winter floods. A path above the beach presents magnificent views of the area, part of these views are the birds and the flowers of the reserve. In every season a different range of birds use the reserve for breeding and feeding. The walk ends in Wicklow Town where you will have the opportunity to do some shopping before we take you back to the accommodation. Overnight Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland.
WALKING DAY FOUR: Distance 8 miles (13km). Height Gain: 505m, 1515 feet. After breakfast we will take you to the start of your walk at Drumgoff in the valley of Glenmalure, Irelands longest glacier valley. The trail takes you North along the Wicklow Way that gently winds its way up out of the valley, to give you some spectacular views of the Glenmalure waterfall and the surrounding countryside. The second section of the walk takes you back into Glendalough where, once again you will have some stunning views as you enter the valley. Overnight Glendalough, County Wicklow, Ireland.
DEPARTURE DAY. We will transfer you to Dublin after breakfast. Book a hotel near your departure airport.

TRAVEL BY TRAIN FROM EUROPE: There is a fast frequent Eurostar rail service to the new Eurostar Terminal at London St Pancras (next to Kings Cross and Euston) from Paris, Bruxelles and Lille. These stations are linked with the rest of mainland europe (France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy). Check Eurostar and TGV across Europe Tickets times and fares by the fast convenient Eurostar. Book your ticket in advance, turn up at the rail station and go! In the time you are waiting at an airport you can be at your destination with much less stress - travel by train. You could even bring your car with you.
TRAVEL from DUBLIN to GLENDALOUGH (included in tour price): We will collect you from Dublin or Dublin airport.
ARRIVING BY CAR: Please ask for details.
RETURN from GLENDALOUGH to DUBLIN (included in the tour price): We will transfer you back to Dublin.

GRADE and CLOTHING INFORMATION: This Hiking tour of Ireland Wicklow Way at Glendalough is Grade C. You can check the tour grade is suitable for you by viewing our Tour Grade page.
GRADE C: Between 9 - 12 miles (14 - 19 kms) a day. Strong waterproof walking boots are desirable. You will start walking about 9:30am and finish at approx. 5pm. These grades are for guidance only. For any grade, depending on weather conditions, it may at times be damp underfoot, so waterproof boots are preferable.

Upon receipt of your confirmation and deposit, I will confirm with the accommodation immediately and normally have a trip fully booked within a week. This will include a Trip Information Sheet specific to your tour; with overnight names, addresses and telephone numbers (similar to the draft trip information sheet on the website). You would need to take out Travel Insurance within 14 days to be fully covered. |

Upon receipt of final payment, which is due 2 months before the tour starts, I will air mail you the maps, notes and a further copy of your trip information sheet. If we do not receive the final payment we will presume you have decided NOT to go-ahead with the tour, and we will therefore cancel the booking. On some tours the tour package will be available on arrival at your first night's accommodation. |
