A six centre inn-to-inn, self-guided walking tour in the Exmoor National Park along the Somerset and Devon Coast Path from Minehead in Somerset to Woolacombe in Devon, England. 6 nights bed and breakfast, 1 dinner, 5 days walking, luggage transfer, transfer from Woolacombe to Barnstaple on final walking day, guide book and maps. This is a coast of contrasts; from the 1,000 foot sea cliffs at Countisbury Head to the broad curve of Porlock Beach and from the stark towers of the Valley of the Rocks to the spaghetti windings of the East Lyn valley. Here the open heathery moors of the Exmoor National Park tumble down to the sea in secret woodlands where the red deer hide. Here too the rose-embowered thatched cottages of Selworthy and Bossington epitomise the English village, clustered around the green or straggling higgledy-piggledy alongside the stream. You start at Minehead and follow the South West Coast Path westwards, with time to stop for a cream tea or explore one of the tiny isolated churches that are such a feature of the area. Culbone Church is reputed to be Englands smallest, while at Oare Church Lorna Doone was shot at her wedding by her uncle. From Berrynarbor you continue along the coast to where the slender finger of Mortehoe stretches out into the Atlantic at Woolacombe.
You stop in country hotels and inns along the way, where accommodation is available in twin, double or single rooms, most but not all with private facilities. B&B, 1 dinner, luggage transfer and a taxi to take you from Mortehoe to Barnstaple is included in the tour price.

Bookmark Explore Britain Tours: DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE of the 6 Nights Hike England's Coast Path Minehead Woolacombe tour: These are the usual booked overnight stays, walks or rides, we occasionally may have to make a late change, if so, you will be advised ahead of time or at your first guesthouse. The guided tours may be adjusted at the leaders discretion, due to weather and groups ability.
START: Minehead is 25 miles NW of Taunton on the Somerset Coast. FINISH: Barnstaple is on the north west Devon coast.
DAY ONE: At Minehead. You may arrive anytime after 3pm. Dinner can be taken at any of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight, Minehead, Somerset, England.
DAY TWO: Walking from Minehead to Porlock. 9 miles (14km) and 1,200 feet of ascent. Up through the old town of Minehead you traverse along the gorse and heather moors looking out across the Bristol Channel. You then drop down to the famed thatched roof buildings of Selworthy and Bossington and finish in Porlock Town. Dinner can be taken at the hotel or the pub in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight at Porlock, Somerset, England.
DAY THREE: Walking from Porlock to Lynmouth. 10 miles (16km) and 1,300 feet of ascent. Today you cross the boundary from Somerset into Devon, passing the isolated Culbone and Oare churches. You finish at the delightful village of Lynmouth almost in the sea. Dinner can be taken at any of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight at Lynmouth, Devon, England.
DAY FOUR: Walking from Lynmouth to Heddon Valley. 10 miles (16km) and 500 feet of ascent. From Lynmouth you take the water powered cliff railway up to Lynton (easier than walking!) and then its along the Valley of the Rocks, with its cream tea cottages past Lee Abbey. You finish the day through the oak woods to arrive at the remote Heddon Valley. Dinner is taken at the hotel restaurant (included in tour price). Overnight at Heddon Valley, Devon, England.
DAY FIVE: Walking from Heddon Valley to Berrynarbor. 10 miles (16km) and 2,000 feet of ascent. Although this is not a long walk, it has a lot of ups and downs. This section is often voted" the prettiest in England. Little Trentishoe church beckons you from the valley and then its across Holdstone Down (on which space ships have been sighted!). Down to the hamlet of Combe Martin and then Berrynarbor is "just around the corner". Dinner can be taken at either of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight at Berrynarbor, Devon, England.
DAY SIX: Walking from Berrynarbor to Woolacombe. 10 miles (16km) and 1,600 feet of ascent. Through the typical English seaside town of Ilfracombe and out through the Torrs (hills) to descend to Lee Bay and then up onto the grassy cliffs which point out to the Atlantic ocean at Morte Point. Woolacombe's golden beach is just a few steps away now. You finish by winding your way through the little streets of Mortehoe to Woolacombe. A taxi will collect you and take you to Barnstaple. Dinner can be taken at the hotel or one of the nearby pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight at Barnstaple, Devon, England.
DAY SEVEN: Departure. The tour finishes from Barnstaple after breakfast.
USEFUL TRAVEL INFORMATION: TRAVEL BY TRAIN FROM EUROPE: There is a fast frequent Eurostar rail service to the new Eurostar Terminal at London St Pancras (next to Kings Cross and Euston) from Paris, Bruxelles and Lille. These stations are linked with the rest of mainland europe (France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy). Check Eurostar and TGV across Europe Tickets times and fares by the fast convenient Eurostar. Book your ticket in advance, turn up at the rail station and go! In the time you are waiting at an airport you can be at your destination with much less stress - travel by train. You could even bring your car with you.
RAIL TRAVEL from LONDON to MINEHEAD (NOT included in tour price): Taunton is the nearest rail station. There is a train service every hour from London (Paddington). Presently the 10:15am arrives 12:45pm (change Bristol Temple Mead). If arriving from Heathrow take the Rail-Air bus to Reading and join the train there. Service 28 (Southern National) bus operates every hour from Taunton (5 minutes past the hour) to Minehead (70 minutes). You will require a taxi for the short steep uphill trip to the hotel in Minehead.
RAIL TRAVEL from BARNSTAPLE to LONDON (NOT included in tour price): The 10:10am train from Barnstaple arrives London 13:50pm (change Exeter St David).
ARRIVING and DEPARTING by EUROLINES or NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH: This is by far the cheapest option for long-dstance travel in England, Scotland, and Wales. There are very convenient buses from each major airport. National Express carries over 16 million passengers to 1000 different places in the UK every year, and thousands more from destinations across Europe and Ireland. You can purchase an e-Ticket where you print your travel ticket online in a matter of minutes OR you can obtain an m-Ticket and have your travel ticket sent to your mobile phone - no paper ticket required. You then present this to the driver on arrival.
GRADE and CLOTHING INFORMATION: This Hike England's Coast Path Minehead Woolacombe is Grade C. You can check the tour grade is suitable for you by viewing our Tour Grade page.
GRADE C: Between 9 - 12 miles (14 - 19 kms) a day. Strong waterproof walking boots are desirable. You will start walking about 9:30am and finish at approx. 5pm. These grades are for guidance only. For any grade, depending on weather conditions, it may at times be damp underfoot, so waterproof boots are preferable.

If you wish to make a provisional booking please read the Terms & Conditions regarding booking and cancelling this holiday and then complete and send the form below. We will then contact you by email. Most tours start in the evening (you start walking, biking or cycling the next day) and finish after breakfast on the final morning (check the DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE above for this tours details). Items in bold must be completed. We do not store any credit card information sent to us on our computers. We manually process the transactions required and then shred all personal details.
PAYMENT currency in UK Pounds Sterling £: We will require a deposit of 50% of the quoted tour price. The balance will be due two months before your tour starts. We will send you a receipt for the deposit (and final payment when due).

The balance must reach us 2 months before the start of the holiday; otherwise we cannot guarantee to hold your booking. Where bookings are made less than 2 months before the start day of the tour, the full amount is payable at the time of booking. Upon receipt of your confirmation and deposit, I will confirm with the accommodation immediately and normally have a trip fully booked within a week. This will include a Trip Information Sheet specific to your tour; with overnight names, addresses and telephone numbers (similar to the draft trip information sheet on the website). You would need to take out Travel Insurance within 14 days to be fully covered.
Upon receipt of final payment, which is due 2 months before the tour starts, I will air mail you the maps, notes and a further copy of your trip information sheet. If we do not receive the final payment we will presume you have decided NOT to go-ahead with the tour, and we will therefore cancel the booking. On some tours the tour package will be available on arrival at your first night's accommodation.
