This Self-guide Bike Ride Kerry May 8 - 15 2010 holiday vacation can be booked by individuals but is very suitable for family groups or friends wanting to share a new experience together. TOUR DETAILS:
A four centre self-guide bike ride in Ireland of the Ring of Kerry Coast in County Kerry May 8th - 15th 2010 starting and finishing in Killarney. 7 nights bed and breakfast in en-suite guesthouse accommodation, transfer of luggage each day, 21 speed touring bike and detailed notes and maps, Telephone back-up and emergency support throughout. This Kerry Coast cycle ride takes you through some of the county's most outstanding scenery around the Ring of Kerry from Killarney. It is enhanced by the influence of both ancient folklore and local traditions. We begin our cycle along the banks of the river Laune and continue through the beautiful district of Caragh Lake to the seaside resort of Glenbeigh, which boasts miles of golden sands and rolling waves. The next stage gives panoramic views of Dingle Bay and the island studded Atlantic ocean, passing through the market town of Cahersiveen and onto the small picturesque fishing village of Portmagee. We cycle around Valentia Island with its unique scenic beauty and tropical vegetation. We continue around the coast by St. Finans Bay and through the beautiful villages of Waterville, Caherdaniel (the home of Daniel O'Connell, the Irish Liberator) and onto the award winning village of Sneem. We travel along the shore of Kenmare Bay into the bustling heritage town of Kenmare and onto Killarney via Molls Gap and Killarney National Park. This is a trip you will never forget!
You are free to choose your own routes, between the accommodation, but you have the service of a back up van (a phone call away) if things go wrong and to transfer your luggage. The average daily cycling distance is a comfortable 15 - 31 miles (24 - 50km). The tour starts and finishes in the beautiful town of Killarney, where we kit you out with your bike. Dinner is not provided, your overnight host will advise on local pubs and restaurants.

DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE of the 7 Nights Self-guide Bike Ride Kerry May 8 - 15 2010 tour: These are the usual booked overnight stays, walks or rides, we occasionally may have to make a late change, if so, you will be advised ahead of time or at your first guesthouse. The guided tours may be adjusted at the leaders discretion, due to weather and groups ability. START and FINISH: Killarney is on the west coast of Ireland in County Kerry.
Saturday May 8th 2010: At Killarney. Rooms are available from 2pm. Evening meals can be obtained in nearby inns or restaurants. Overnight Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
Sunday May 9th 2010: Killarney to Glenbeigh. 31 miles (49km) After being equipped with your bike you will head off through the lanes to Beaufort, Glencar and alongside Caragh Lake. You finish at the seaside resort of Glenbeigh. Overnight Glenbeigh, County Kerry, Ireland.
Monday May 10th 2010: Glenbeigh to Waterville 28 miles (46km). A beautiful biking day with lovely views across to the Dingle peninsula to lunch at the market village of Cahersiveen. In the afternoon you have the option of doing a longer bike ride taking in Valentia Island. You finish at Waterville with plenty of choice for late evening listening to music. Tuesday May 11th 2010: Rest day or optional cycle rides. Today you can either relax and do some shopping, swim in the Atlantic ocean or take another cycle ride out into the Kerry countryside. Overnight Waterville, County Kerry, Ireland.
Wednesday May 12th 2010: Waterville to Sneem 30 miles (48km). Today's cycle ride takes you through Coomakista Pass which is one of the best viewing points in Ireland, with magnificent views over Kenmare and the Atlantic Ocean. Lunch stop either in Derrynane House, the Liberator Daniel O'Connell's home, or the village of Caherdaniel. After lunch you cycle along the coast to the picturesque village of Sneem. Overnight Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland.
Thursday May 13th 2010: Sneem to Killarney 28 miles (45km). Today's bike ride takes you inland and off the main Ring of Kerry Road. The highlights of the bike ride are Molls Gap where you can stop for lunch. From here to Killarney, stopping at Ladies View, you will see the spectacular Lakes of Killarney. You pass Torc Waterfall and Muckross House. The ride can be lengthened to go via the market town of Kenmare if you wish. Overnight Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.
Friday May 14th 2010: Killarney to Black Valley Circular 15 miles (24km). This is your final day as you ride through the dramatic Gap of Dunloe into the remote Black Valley. You can then take a boat (fare not included in tour price) through the three lakes to arrive in Killarney town OR continuing to cycle into Killarney. On your final night you could easily discover music and dance in one of the local pubs. Overnight Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.
Saturday May 15th 2010: The tour finishes from Killarney after breakfast.
USEFUL TRAVEL INFORMATION: TRAVEL BY TRAIN FROM EUROPE: There is a fast frequent Eurostar rail service to the new Eurostar Terminal at London St Pancras (next to Kings Cross and Euston) from Paris, Bruxelles and Lille. These stations are linked with the rest of mainland europe (France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy). Check Eurostar and TGV across Europe Tickets times and fares by the fast convenient Eurostar. Book your ticket in advance, turn up at the rail station and go! In the time you are waiting at an airport you can be at your destination with much less stress - travel by train. You could even bring your car with you.
TRAVEL from CORK or DUBLIN AIRPORT to KILLARNEY (NOT included in tour price): Cheap Direct flights are offered by Air SouthWest to Cork and Dublin. There is a bus or rail service from either Cork or Dublin to Killarney.
RETURN from KILLARNEY to SHANNON AIRPORT (NOT included in tour price): We can arrange for you to arrive at Shannon airport at 11am.
GRADE and CLOTHING INFORMATION: This Self-guide Bike Ride Kerry May 8 - 15 2010 is Grade D. You can check the tour grade is suitable for you by viewing our Tour Grade page.
GRADE D (cycling): Between 15 - 31 miles (24 - 50kms) a day. There are some longer mileage options available on certain days. We recommend that clients bring their own helmets and raingear for comfort and hygiene purposes. You will start cycling about 10am and finish at approx. 4pm. These grades are for guidance only and will depend on weather conditions and your fitness.
INSURANCE (MEDICAL and TRAVEL): We think it is essential for clients to take out their own personal accident and travel insurance before they arrive. This can be booked on-line using the links from our pages or contact your own local insurance broker.

If you wish to make a provisional booking please read the Terms & Conditions regarding booking and cancelling this holiday and then complete and send the form below. We will then contact you by email. Most tours start in the evening (you start walking, biking or cycling the next day) and finish after breakfast on the final morning (check the DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE above for this tours details). Items in bold must be completed. We do not store any credit card information sent to us on our computers. We manually process the transactions required and then shred all personal details.
PAYMENT currency in UK Pounds Sterling £: We will require a deposit of 50% of the quoted tour price. The balance will be due two months before your tour starts. We will send you a receipt for the deposit (and final payment when due).
You can pay for your Explore Britain walking or cycling vacation by using your credit card. We can quote, and accept payment, in Pound Sterling, American Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, New Zealand Dollar, Swiss France, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, Polish Zloty, Hungarian Forint, Czech Koruna, Singapore Dollar, Japanese Yen and Hong Kong Dollar.
Payment can also be made by personal cheque, currency in UK Pounds Sterling £, made payable to "Explore Britain", or by direct transfer to our Explore Britain Clients Trust Account (ask for details). Payment should be mailed to 6 George Street, FERRYHILL, County Durham, DL17 0DT, England. The balance must reach us 2 months before the start of the holiday; otherwise we cannot guarantee to hold your booking. Where bookings are made less than 2 months before the start day of the tour, the full amount is payable at the time of booking. No booking has been made, without us making a quotation and receiving a deposit. Please contact us by telephone +44 1740 650900 if you do not hear back from us within 2 days.
Upon receipt of your confirmation and deposit, I will confirm with the accommodation immediately and normally have a trip fully booked within a week. This will include a Trip Information Sheet specific to your tour; with overnight names, addresses and telephone numbers (similar to the draft trip information sheet on the website). You would need to take out Travel Insurance within 14 days to be fully covered.
Upon receipt of final payment, which is due 2 months before the tour starts, I will air mail you the maps, notes and a further copy of your trip information sheet. If we do not receive the final payment we will presume you have decided NOT to go-ahead with the tour, and we will therefore cancel the booking. On some tours the tour package will be available on arrival at your first night's accommodation.
