A four centre self-guided bike tour along the Great Glen from Fort William to Inverness in Scotland. 4 night’s bed and breakfast in (en-suite wherever possible) guesthouse accommodation, 3 days biking with hire of a front suspension mountain bike that will be pick-up at the end of the tour. Includes luggage transfers, route guide book and maps. The Great Glen Cycle Route is a magnificent 80 mile route through some of most impressive Scottish highland scenery. Using mainly traffic-free bike trails the route starts in the picturesque town of Fort William with an easy first section along the Caledonian Canal. A challenging middle section is rewarded by stunning views over this area of outstanding natural beauty. Riding on forest tracks alongside beautiful Lochs including the world famous Loch Ness, on the right day this is a never forgotten bike ride. The final section of the route follows minor roads through sparsely populated countryside, very isolated in places adding to its beauty. The tour finishes in bustling city of Inverness, with many places of historical interest to visit. The final morning the hire bikes will be collected so that you are free to continue your journey.

The guided tours may be adjusted at the leaders discretion, due to weather and groups ability.
START: Fort William is on the west coast in the Highlands of Scotland. FINISH: Inverness is on the east coast in the Highlands of Scotland.
ARRIVAL DAY: At Fort William fitting out with your bike. Your first nights’ accommodation is in the quaint fishing port town of Fort William. There are many places to eat in the town centre from fish and chip shops to luxury restaurants (meals not included in the tour price). Overnight Fort William, Scotland.
DAY TWO: Fort William to Invergarry. Distance approx. 26 miles (42km). After breakfast you would picked up your bike from the shop and begin the ride, a nice easy start giving you time to get used to the bike. The Caledonian Canal is a traffic-free cycleway that allows you the freedom to look around and admire the stunning views. Riding through this area of outstanding natural beauty is a real joy with Mountains, Lochs, Rivers and Forests keeping an eye out for the wildlife too. A gravel track hugs the side of Loch Lochy with a testing short hilly forest trail section before reaching your next overnight stop at Invergarry. There are 2 hotels here for you to choose from for an evening meal (not included). Overnight Invergarry, Scotland.
DAY THREE: Invergarry to Drumnadrochit. Distance approx. 27 miles (43km). Today is the most challenging ride of the tour, but on the right day this is a never forgotten bike ride. Your efforts are rewarded by spectacular views and with the pretty towns of Fort Augustus and Invermoriston giving opportunities for refreshments or lunch. The forest trail zigzags up to 900 feet above Loch Ness, with magnificent views making it all worthwhile and look out for that monster! The descent is challenging too but as with the climbing you could always walk if necessary. The route becomes much easier as you approach "Drum" as it is known locally, there are traditional pubs or hotels here to obtain an evening meal (not included). Overnight Drumnadrochit, Scotland.
DAY FOUR: Dunmadrochit to Inverness. Distance approx. 29 miles (48km). The last section of the tour follows minor country roads that are very remote in places with only occasional homesteads and farms. The route takes you through beautiful countryside with lovely scenery, but it is isolated so you will need to pack sufficient food and drink with you. In contrast Inverness is a vibrant city with lots to offer, the castle is just one the monuments to Inverness role in the violent and romantic history of the Highlands. As well as souvenir and specialty shops the city has a wide variety of pubs, hotels and restaurants to celebrate completion of The Great Glen Cycle Route (meals not included). FINAL DAY: The tour finishes after breakfast, the bikes will be collected so you are free to continue your journey.
USEFUL TRAVEL INFORMATION: TRAVEL BY TRAIN FROM EUROPE: There is a fast frequent Eurostar rail service to the new Eurostar Terminal at London St Pancras (next to Kings Cross and Euston) from Paris, Bruxelles and Lille. These stations are linked with the rest of mainland europe (France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy). Check Eurostar and TGV across Europe Tickets times and fares by the fast convenient Eurostar. Book your ticket in advance, turn up at the rail station and go! In the time you are waiting at an airport you can be at your destination with much less stress - travel by train. You could even bring your car with you.
RAIL TRAVEL from LONDON, EDINBURGH or GLASGOW to FORT WILLIAM (NOT included in tour price): The rail station is in the centre of Fort William. Presently the 12:40pm from Glasgow Queen Street arrives Fort
William 16:22pm (direct).

RAIL TRAVEL from INVERNESS to LONDON, EDINBURGH and GLASGOW (NOT included in tour price): There is an airport at Inverness. The nearest rail station is Inverness.
ARRIVING and DEPARTING by EUROLINES or NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH: This is by far the cheapest option for long-dstance travel in England, Scotland, and Wales. There are very convenient buses from each major airport. National Express carries over 16 million passengers to 1000 different places in the UK every year, and thousands more from destinations across Europe and Ireland. You can purchase an e-Ticket where you print your travel ticket online in a matter of minutes OR you can obtain an m-Ticket and have your travel ticket sent to your mobile phone - no paper ticket required. You then present this to the driver on arrival.

GRADE B (cycling): Between 26 - 29 miles (42-48 kms) a day. The route is principally a hilly ride. We recommend that clients bring their own cycles, clothing and equipment. We can arrange for the hire of this, if required. The cost would be about £50. You will start cycling about 10am and finish at approx. 4pm. These grades are for guidance only and will depend on weather conditions and your fitness.

Most tours start in the evening (you start walking, biking or cycling the next day) and finish after breakfast on the final morning (check the DAILY and OVERNIGHT SCHEDULE above for this tours details). Items in bold must be completed. We do not store any credit card information sent to us on our computers. We manually process the transactions required and then shred all personal details.
PAYMENT currency in UK Pounds Sterling £: We will require a deposit of 50% of the quoted tour price. The balance will be due two months before your tour starts. We will send you a receipt for the deposit (and final payment when due).

The balance must reach us 2 months before the start of the holiday; otherwise we cannot guarantee to hold your booking. Where bookings are made less than 2 months before the start day of the tour, the full amount is payable at the time of booking. Upon receipt of your confirmation and deposit, I will confirm with the accommodation immediately and normally have a trip fully booked within a week. This will include a Trip Information Sheet specific to your tour; with overnight names, addresses and telephone numbers (similar to the draft trip information sheet on the website). You would need to take out Travel Insurance within 14 days to be fully covered.
Upon receipt of final payment, which is due 2 months before the tour starts, I will air mail you the maps, notes and a further copy of your trip information sheet. If we do not receive the final payment we will presume you have decided NOT to go-ahead with the tour, and we will therefore cancel the booking. On some tours the tour package will be available on arrival at your first night's accommodation.
