About Explore Britain

Philip Scriver trading as Explore Britain operates as a sole trader in the United Kingdom. The website operated for the business of walking and cycling adventure holidays, and travel books is http://www.xplorebritain.com. Other domain names owned are http://www.explorebritain.co.uk and http://www.xplorebritain.co.uk. The owner of Explore Britain, Philip Scriver, has a wide experience of walking and hiking in Great Britain, Ireland and the USA. I have hiked extensively in the United States, completing the full length of the Appalachian Trail (2,000+ miles) in 1980 as a thru-hiker. I started working as a walking tour guide with English Wanderer in 1981. I have worked as a walking tour guide for English Wanderer, Abercrombie and Kent and group leader in the UK for Elderhostel. I moved on to offer inn-to-inn, self-guided and special guided walking, cycling and golf tours via my xplorebritain website in 1999.

I live in County Durham in Northern England with my wife Jennifer - we got married in 2008 at the home of Bobbie Shafto! The winter months are spent preparing special tours for our returning clients.

Last, but by no means the least, our faithful dogs, Tess the border collie and Jennifer's Bonnie. Those of you who visit with us here, know there is ALWAYS a welcome from them. This is Tess helping us to plan your walking trip!
Let me see, I wonder if they would like to see some lambs and rabbits. I'm sure there are some in this field

I continue to offer my personal knowledge of the beautiful countryside of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and to advise the best options both for independent travel and for guided tours. I am able to "tailor" any of the walking and hiking tours and holidays to suit your requirements; in terms of days, mileage walked, hotel or B&B category or location.

I aim to work as quickly and as efficiently as possibly to make the booking experience as pleasurable as the holidays themselves. I aim to be flexible and accommodating to your needs. If you want something slightly different than that which is listed in the website, I CAN offer it. I aim to make a dream holiday a reality.

We live, work and play in beautiful Durham England.
