Meet your guide in the city center to begin your bike tour of The Beatles’ Liverpool. Formed in the city in 1960, the Beatles went on to become one of the most successful bands of all time, with ‘Beatlemania’ gripping the entire world. Listen as your guide talks through the 16-mile route. Then, put on your helmet and pedal your way through the streets. The pace is leisurely and avoids most of the main roads, allowing you to listen to your guide and take in the sights as you cycle. First, stop outside the high school where Paul McCartney and George Harrison studied, and spend a few moments snapping photos before continuing on your way. Next, see the art school that John Lennon attended along with his future first wife, Cynthia Lennon, and Stuart Sutcliffe, the band’s original bassist who is often referred to as ‘the fifth Beatle.’ Continue on to Sefton Park. Pause outside the Palm House and hear how the intricately designed structure was much loved by George. Then, make your way to Penny Lane. Take delight in spotting several landmarks that feature in the song, such as the fire station and the barber shop. After working up your appetite, head to Dovedale Towers pub. Here, recharge with a drink and a snack (own expense) and listen as your guide shares tales of how Freddie Mercury apparently stayed above the pub during the '60s. Feeling refreshed, continue to John and George’s elementary school and John’s high school. Then, stop outside John’s former home and St Peter’s Church Hall, where John and Paul first met. At the church, see the grave of Eleanor Rigby, and hear how it ‘subconsciously’ inspired the title of the single ‘Eleanor Rigby.’ Next, pass Strawberry Field, a Salvation Army children's home, before making your final stop outside Paul’s former home. Your tour concludes back at the original start point after around 3.5 hours. Please note: This tour does not go inside the houses of Paul McCartney or John Lennon.
