| TIPPING POLICY It is not a British custom to tip for a service that we would expect anyway. We would leave a tip for a person who gave us a wonderful stay with better service or assistance. Since most of your services provided at a guesthouse are pre-booked and payed for, there is generally no need to leave a tip. If this seems odd to you, it doesn't to us. A small gift from where you have come from or a thank-you note on returning home would be appreciated. |

| CLOTHING: The weather in Wales can change quickly so it is essential to bring a strong waterproof hiking jacket. Jackets that are only `Showerproof' and capes are NOT suitable. |
|
| Cotton and/or wool trousers (or better still specialist hiking trousers) are desirable in our climate. Jeans are NOT suitable (they can chaff the skin when wet and are impossible to keep clean, wash and dry at small single night stays. We also recommend waterproof overtrousers which have zips in the legs so that they can be pulled on and off without the need to remove your boots. |

| Even on sunny days there is often a strong wind which can cool the body quickly so you should bring a warm jumper and hat. We recommend some protective cream as the combination of sun and wind can dry the skin quickly. |

| If you bring a vacuum flask the hotel would be happy to fill it if you bring it down to breakfast. |
|
| You will need a small rucksack to carry your rainproofs and lunch packet. |
|
| A clear plastic cover for your maps and notes will be useful (so you can read the information provided, should it rain). |
|
| Your luggage must be restricted to one suitcase or similar. Please remember if you can't lift the suitcase up stairs without injury, then it would be best to reduce the items packed or put into two smaller suitcases. |
|
| FOOTWEAR: On all but the easiest tours there is a lot of ascent and descent in remote areas. You will start walking at approximately 9:30am and finish between 4pm and 5pm. |
|
| The ground underfoot varies from back roads and good footpaths to rocky paths with steep gradients or trackless moorland, which may be wet and muddy. |
|
| Strong waterproof walking boots with good support for the ankles and commando (cleated) type soles are desirable. For your own enjoyment please MAKE SURE that they are WELL WORN IN and COMFORTABLE. |
|
| If you have a favourite product to protect from blisters (sometimes known as 2nd skin), bring a supply of these with you. |
|
| From past experience we recommend, for comfort, that you require at least a new and clean pair of thin socks underneath a pair of thick long socks (in which you can tuck the lower part of your trousers) each day. This may require a boot one size larger than your usual fitting. |
