Brighton Museum & Art Gallery was named one of Britain's Top 10 in the category Best Museum & Art Gallery in a nationwide campaign to find the Best of British conducted by Period Living & Traditional Homes magazine in 2005. Brighton Museum & Art Gallery re-opened on 4 May 2002, transformed by a £10million redevelopment, with a complete redisplay of its rich and diverse collections. Within the re-modelled building, dynamic and innovative new galleries provide greatly improved access to the museum's nationally and locally important collections. New facilities include reinstatement of the original museum entrance in Royal Pavilion Gardens with a spacious foyer and shop, passenger lift and full disabled access. Also the new Gallery Cafe.
The Royal Pavilion is universally acclaimed as one of the most exotically beautiful buildings in the British Isles, the Royal Pavilion is the magnificent former seaside residence of King George lV. Decorated in Chinese taste with an Indian exterior, this Regency palace is quite breathtaking. Restored Regency gardens, tearooms, guided tours and giftshop. Free audio tour included in admission price. Audio tours are available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. There is also an audio tour in English for people who are visually impaired.
The seafront Brighton & Hove seafront is the city's largest entertainment venue offering 11km of entertainment and activities many of which are free. Spend a day on the seafront and enjoy swimming, sunbathing, basketball, kayaking, surfing and year round events - to name but a few pursuits. For our younger visitors there are children's wet and dry play areas, carousel rides and of course the chance to build a sand castle. Fun is never limited to the children though and there are amusement arcades, crazy golf, bungee rides and a fitness centre to keep the adults occupied. With so many interesting shops, bars, galleries and restaurants it is easy to spend a day by the sea making the most of all the best that Brighton has to offer.
